Relationships are a beautiful thing. Having someone there for you when you need it most, someone to love and love you back, and someone to cuddle with all sound incredible. Even watching your friends in relationships is beautiful sometimes. However, sometimes it’s nice to date yourself.

The term “dating yourself” just sounds odd. I mean, what does that even mean?! Well, it’s really not as bad as it sounds.

Dating yourself can vary from person to person. What I think it entails is giving yourself what you deserve. Nobody else can tell you what that may be, either. Maybe it’s a bit of time to be alone and read a good book or maybe it means some serious retail therapy. Whatever it may be, it is important that you take the opportunity to take care of yourself.

While dating yourself sounds pretty dang easy, it’s not always what it cracks up to be. Some days you will feel so great! You’re an independent individual who doesn’t need anybody!! Other days won’t be so easy because you’ll long for the feeling of being loved and needed, or maybe you’re just tired of being single. And it’s okay! It’s okay to be tired of being single and it’s okay to want to feel needed.

Dating yourself doesn’t have to be long term. The length that you feel is right for you is the right length, whether it be a week or many years. Only you know how to date yourself and how to treat yourself right.

Whether you’re in a relationship or not, it’s important to take time for yourself. Go get tickets for that game that you wanted to go to with your best bud! Go and get your nails done with your main gal pal. Or take that road trip by yourself that you’ve always wanted to take since your were a freshman in high school. This is your life and you deserve to treat yourself sometimes.
